Rifle stolen in Canal Flats B&E

Columbia Valley RCMP Report

On Nov. 1, a neighbour discovered a break and enter to a home on Dunn Street in Canal Flats and reported it to the Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment. Entry was gained via a broken window.

Reported stolen was a 30-30 Winchester rifle. Anyone with information on this theft is asked to contact the detachment.

Deer back along the highways

On Oct. 30, Columbia Valley Detachment received a report of a single vehicle collision with a deer on Hwy 93/95 between Canal Flats and Fairmont Hot Springs.  A 2008 Dodge Ram received front end damage.  The 50-year-old male driver was not harmed.

Drunk in public

Columbia Valley Detachment attended to a complaint of an intoxicated male causing problems at the Hillcrest apartments on 13th Street at 7:37 p.m. on Nov. 2. On initial attendance the male was not located.  A second call to the area resulted in locating a 28-year-old male from Invermere.  The male was arrested for being drunk in public and it was later determined that the male was on conditions by the courts to abstain from the use of alcohol and was also charged with breaching this condition. The male will appear in Invermere Provincial Court on Feb 12.

Greyhound driver bitten by dog

At 9:47 p.m. on Nov. 2, Columbia Valley Detachment responded to a male being bitten by a dog at the Greyhound bus station in Radium. The male driver exited the bus and was bitten by a dog that was on leash causing minor injuries. The dog control officer was contacted. The owner is co-operating with the health centre to ensure the dog was healthy and not cause any further medical concerns.

Vague complaint stemming from social media

At 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, Columbia Valley Detachment responded to a complaint of threats observed over the social media.

Unfortunately due to consuming liquor the victim had deleted the comments and could not remember what was said, who sent it, what derogatory remarks were said, but was uncomfortable with what was said. However, they could not articulate what made them feel uncomfortable. The officer who documented this investigation did a good job at not telling me much about this complaint.

Damage to windshield

At 3:48 p.m. on Nov. 3, Columbia Valley Detachment received a report of damage to the windshield of a 2007 Dodge Caravan parked in the 1000 block of 13th Ave.

White van possibly suspicious

At 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 3 the detachment received a report that happened the previous day while a 14-year-old female was walking home, when a white van drove up and a person asked her about a missing dog.  An older, balding male had asked the girl to come closer to the van. The young female kept walking and the vehicle departed.  Police were unable to get a better description at the time of the report. Anyone with information is requested to contact the detachment.

Car stereo stolen at Canal Flats

At 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, Columbia Valley Detachment received a report of theft from a vehicle that was parked in the impound lot of Wrench Bender tow compound in Canal Flats. A 2005 VW Jetta had stereo equipment stolen.

Movember reminder

A reminder.  Going to keep pushing this. Want to reach our goal. That time of the year for men to grow their mustaches and raise money for prostate cancer research.  Last year the Detachment Members raised over $2,000.  This year if the detachment can raise over $2,000, rather than shave my mustache off, which was far to traumatic, I have advised the members that I would have Julie streak my hair with RCMP colors of red, yellow and blue.  If you want to see that, you can go to the following web site: https://mobro.co/columbiavalleyrcmp and make a donation.

Raging Grandma Part III

It was the opening ceremonies for the Columbia Valley Rockies a while back and I noted on the schedule that the Neil kids would be in the arena to assist with dropping the ceremonial puck to start our 2012/2013 season.

When I realized this, I started to shake, had the sweats as I realized that somewhere in the crowd there’s a woman I fear. There may be another physical confrontation with Raging Grandma.   Two previous assaults on me while out of uniform. However, this time I was prepared. Sure enough I run into raging Grandma and as it looked like she was ready to pounce, she froze and backed off.  I would like to think that she found peace and harmony in her life and maybe mid life age has slowed her down. (I find that at my age I am very careful on how I select my description when it comes to age.)  I would like to think that, but I believe the fact I was in uniform and prepared to use my less than deadly force options on my duty belt to protect myself gave her second thoughts. We actually engaged in civil conversation. There is hope for everyone.
