Scandinavians aid Canadian Cancer Society
The Scandinavians of the East Kootenay generously donated $1,425 to the Canadian Cancer Society Financial Support Program. (At right Penny Holmberg, Scandinavians; left Lynnette Wray, Canadian Cancer Society). These proceeds were from the Scandinavians recent garage sale this past weekend.
The Canadian Cancer Society Financial Support Program provides short-term financial assistance for travel and accommodation expenses related to cancer treatment.
In addition to the Financial Support Program, the Canadian Cancer Society offers many services including:

CancerConnection: CancerConnection matches patients or caregivers with trained volunteers with a similar cancer experience. There is also an online community to share experiences and find support. Available 24 hours a day, visit cancerconnection.ca
Camp Goodtimes: Camp Goodtimes provides a unique recreation experience for children and teens with cancer and their families.
Accommodation: The Society operates four affordable lodges in B.C. (i.e., Kelowna, Vancouver, Prince George, Victoria), offering 24-hour support on premises from volunteers and staff and a host of amenities.
Transportation: Available in some locations, if you have cancer and you don’t have transportation, a volunteer driver may be able to pick you up and take you to your appointments.
Wig Lending Program and Breast Prostheses: The wig and breast prosthesis banks provide a wide range of headwear and prostheses to cancer patients at no cost. In the Kootenays, there is a wig and breast prosthesis program at the Cranbrook Canadian Cancer Society office.
