School fire treated as suspicious
On November 11, at 4:40 a.m., Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services received a 9-1-1 call regarding a fire at Laurie Junior Secondary School located at 1808 2nd Street South in Cranbrook.
Three firefighters and one truck responded to the fire within a few minutes and arrived on scene to find large flames and a significant amount of smoke coming from the exterior roof at the back of the building. An additional 14 off duty members also responded to the scene.
Crews quickly actioned and extinguished the fire with no injuries reported.
Cranbrook RCMP officers were requested to assist and attended the scene. The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being treated as suspicious.
No damage estimate is available at this time. Fire crews remain on scene to assist with the investigation and the cleanup.
Cranbrook RCMP and Fire Department are jointly investigating the matter.
