SD5 Board Notes
The following is a summary of board motions carried during the December 8 School District No. 5 (SD5) school board meeting held in Cranbrook.
Motions Carried
Election of Chair & Representatives
The SD5 Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the unanimous re-election of Trustee Frank Lento as Board Chair at last night’s board meeting. This position is elected each December.
Policy
That the Draft Policy Advertising be sent to the Board of Education for approval.
That the Draft Policy Social Media be sent to the Board of Education for approval.
That the revised Policy 7.1 Acceptable Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Technology Services be sent to the Board of Education for approval.
General
That the Board approve the amended calendar*.
That Trustee Lento be appointed to the Fernie Leisure Services Advisory Board as per their letter request for representation by the SD5 Board.
That the Board allow three readings** of Capital Project Bylaw –Project No. 155491, Laurie Middle School – Fire to a maximum expenditure of $750,000.
That the Board approve Capital Project Bylaw Project No. 155491, Laurie Middle School – Fire to a maximum expenditure of $750,000.
That the Board approve the School District Statement of Financial Information, Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2015 to submit the report to the Minister of Education and to make the report available to the public.
That the board Donate to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper program in the amount of $1,000 in Cranbrook and $700 in Fernie. This represents a donation of $100 on behalf of each of the SD5 schools in lieu of a gift to the staff of each school.
That the Board write a letter to the Ministry of Education requesting that they fund for all staff, including part-time, the two additional of professional days that have been added to the 2015/16 school calendar to prepare for the new curriculum.
* Amended to accommodate the Ministry of Education’s approval of the addition of two professional days to be added to the 2015/16-school calendar to allow staff to prepare for the new curriculum.
** Legislation requires three readings of a bylaw to be completed in order for it to carry. All three readings may take place at the same meeting upon unanimous consent of the Board.
