SD5 Board Notes
The following is a summary of School District No. 5 (SD5) School Board of Trustees’ motions carried during their Oct. 9 meeting in Cranbrook.
A Legacy of Learning Project page has been included on the SD5 website. This initiative is a partnership between the Columbia Basin Institute of Regional History and SD5 to research and assemble a series of web sites investigating (and sharing) the history of education in the East Kootenay.
Motions carried
Advocacy
That Trustee Patricia Whalen write a letter to Ms. Gregson, Director of Child and Family Development Services at Collingwood Neighbourhood House Society, letting her know the Board supports the Community Plan for a Public System of Integrated Early Care and Learning.
That the Board write a letter to Melanie Fiorentino in response to concerns about traffic safety at Mt. Baker Secondary School.
Education/Policy
That the Field Trip Application to Greece in the spring of 2013 by Mt. Baker Secondary, Parkland and Laurie Middle Schools be sent to the Board of Education for approval.
Finance Ops
That the Board move the recommendation from Advocacy to Finance/Operations/ Personnel Committee to ask the Secretary-Treasurer “to prepare a letter for the Board to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services of support for the SD38 letter of October 16th, 2012, and outlining similar funding concerns specific to our District” and to send a copy of the letter to Minister Don McRae.
General
The City of Cranbrook has once again extended an invitation to nominate a member to sit on select City of Cranbrook committees. Although final appointment is determined by the City of Cranbrook, the SD5 Board nominated the following Trustees for consideration:

City of Cranbrook –Wellness and Heritage, Trustee Johns
City of Cranbrook –Family & Community, Trustee Ayling
City of Cranbrook –Economic Development, Trustee Besanger
