Severe thunderstorm watch in effect

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the East Kootenay north, including the Invermere area.

Severe thunderstorm conditions are possible from afternoon to evening.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail, Environment Canada stated in an alert issued at 2:32 p.m. today (July 3).

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.

Please monitor local media or Weatheradio.
