Severe thunderstorm watch issued

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the East Kootenay.

The watch (issued today – July 20) includes the area between Invermere and Cranbrook.

Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain.

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.

Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Please monitor local media or Weatheradio. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports to #BCStorm.
