Talks break down between St. Eugene and BCGEU
Collective agreement contract talks have broken down between the BC Government Employees’ Union (BCGEU) and St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino.
Both sides report they remain committed to creating a fair collective agreement but work remains to be done following three days of negotiations with with Labour Relations Board Mediator Trevor Sones in Cranbrook.
Max Dressler, CEO of St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino (SEM), said he is disappointed that there has been a breakdown in contract negotiations with BCGEU but it is business as usual at the resort.
“We remain committed to achieving a fair and reasonable agreement that recognizes the economic realities we face in the region, but unfortunately we are far apart on some issues and have therefore decided to break-off the negotiations,” said Dressler. “It is disappointing, but we want to stress to our guests that despite this setback the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino is open as usual, and we know that our guests will continue to receive the exceptional service from staff that they have come to expect and which they deserve.”
The company said it would now await a report from Sones, the mediator appointed by the B.C. Labour Relations Board, before determining its next steps.
And that is exactly what the BCGEU is doing, noted a union statement issued to e-KNOW this afternoon (April 25).
“While no agreement has been reached, it remains our hope a deal that’s satisfactory to both sides can be accomplished without any work disruptions, especially as SEM enters its high season. Our goal for our members is a fair collective agreement. We await the report from Mediator Sones, which will outline next steps,” the BCGEU concluded.
