Weston withdraws from mayor’s race

Paddy Weston has opted to withdraw from the City of Kimberley mayoral race and intends to once again run for council, where she has served the past three years.

“After much discussion and analysis, I have decided to withdraw my nomination papers for the position of mayor,” Weston stated, adding she has decided to run for council again.  “I’ve enjoyed my first term and think the next could be even more positive and productive.”

Seeing so many strong, progressive candidates running for the council positions has encouraged Weston in this decision.

She is confident that many of her aspirations around improving communication and efficiency at city hall and strengthening Kimberley’s economy can be facilitated from the councillor’s role, and looks forward to the opportunity of another term in council.  “Learning more about the needs and desires of residents and effective governance is vital and interesting work. I will continue pursue these goals if re-elected,” she said.

Also, Coun. Weston believes that it will be easier for the community to have a clear choice for mayor with fewer people running. The race now appears to be a two candidate affair, with current mayor Jim Ogilvie and former one-term mayor Ron Macrae in the running.

“I thank my team and supporters for their understanding and hope the electorate grants me another term to serve as councillor in this wonderful community.”
