Wildlife Federation wants province to revisit Jumbo MDA

The announcement that the BC Liberal government has approved the Jumbo Glacier Resort development has drawn strong criticism from across the province, and another powerful organization has now added its voice to those opposing the project, says Columbia River – Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald.

“The BC Wildlife Federation (BCWF), which represents more than 40,000 members, has released a statement demanding that the Minister of Forests revisit his decision to approve the Master Development Agreement for Jumbo,” said Macdonald. “The BCWF stated that this decision is wrong and based on false economics, and goes against the clearly stated position of local residents.”

The BCWF, which has the stated mission of protecting, enhancing and promoting the wise use of the environment for the benefit of present and future generations, is British Columbia’s largest and oldest conservation organization.

“My experience with talking to people who live, work and recreate in this area is that they understand the real impacts of this development. And the majority of people who will feel the effects of this project oppose it. That’s an opinion that must be respected by government. I agree with the BCWF, the Minister of Forests has made the wrong decision,” Macdonald said.
