The lengthy respite from snow in the lower reaches of the East Kootenay came to a mostly minor end last night, with residents in the region waking up to the white Christmas that slipped past.

As a result, highway conditions are varied throughout the region, with higher elevations posing the most risk.

All regional highways have slushy and slippery sections as reported by Drive BC.
