Busy long weekend for CVSAR

It has been a busy long weekend for Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) with three callouts on Sunday, July 2.

The first call-out was for a climber who had become entrapped in a boulder below Crescent Spire in highly unstable terrain. A team of rescuers responded and were able to lift the boulder off the subject’s leg with a mechanical lifting device. The subject was transported to Invermere and District Hospital for further medical aid.

The second call-out was for stranded hikers near Panorama Mountain Resort. The subjects were located and transported to safety with the help of Glacier Helicopters Invermere (pictured).

The third call-out was a mutual aid request from Kimberley Search and Rescue near Top of the World Provincial Park. CVSAR members responded and assisted in the multi-agency incident for a vehicle roll-over.

In the event of a rescue, you can help us by wearing bright colours to be more visible from the air and by making the universal hand signal for “I need help” (above right) which is two arms raised above your head.
