Pathway to Tilley Park to be constructed in summer
Village of Canal Flats council March 28 awarded a construction contract for Phase 2 of Canal Flats Shore to Shore (S2S) Pathway to Gally Equipment Services of Cranbrook.
The project – complete with concrete barriers separating the pathway from the Grainger Road surface – will result in a first-class pathway for the residents of Canal Flats to walk or bike to the beach at Tilley Memorial Park.
When the S2S is complete, it will join the Kootenay River to Columbia Lake via a non-motorized active transportation corridor.
The $770,000 project is graciously grant funded by: Columbia Basin Trust, $461,300; BC Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program, $109,205; and the BC Catalyst Fund (administered by Kootenay Rockies Tourism) $50,000 ($22,750 previously spent on project engineering design).
The remainder is paid by the Village of Canal Flats through a contribution from its Gas Tax infrastructure money and some money from surplus from prior years.
In addition to the S2S Phase 2, the completion of the childcare centre in downtown Canal Flats; Medical Clinic under development in the Columbia Discovery Centre; and replacement of major Village Sewer System Infrastructure ensure that this will be a busy municipal construction season.
