Wildfire burning east of Canal Flats

The BC Wildfire Service reports there is a person-caused wildfire, about seven hectares in size, burning along the Kootenay-Bypass Forest Service Road about seven kilometres east of Canal Flats.

The fire, on the east side of Whitetail Brook, was discovered July 13. It remains active and is the only wildfire burning in the Southeast Fire Centre at this time.

BC Wildfire Service notes in a disclaimer on its website: Wildfire perimeters for the current fire season, including both active and inactive fires, are supplied from various sources. The data is refreshed from operational systems nightly to the public map. Wildfire data may not reflect the current fire situation, and therefore should only be used for reference purposes.

Wildfire data from the incident is updated when practicable and the occurrence of individual fire updates will vary.

The information is intended for general purposes only and should not be relied on as accurate because fires are dynamic and circumstances may change quickly.

The levels of current fire activity within the mapped fire perimeters can vary widely. In the event that the perimeters overlay locations with property or infrastructure, the perimeters do not indicate what level of damage (if any) may have occurred.
