Cannabis retail store rezoning hearing Jan. 30

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is holding a public hearing regarding a cannabis retail store proposed for Athalmer Highway on Jan. 30 at the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commence.

The 7 p.m. public hearing will consider Bylaw No. 2897, which if approved will rezone the property at 4884 Athalmer Road to permit a cannabis retail store and gather the views of residents on the proposed cannabis retail licence.

There are currently no zones in the RDEK that permit cannabis retail sales, a planning department report noted.

ā€œIf the proposed amending bylaw is approved, it will permit a cannabis retail store on the subject property only,ā€ the RDEK outlined.

The Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch is currently reviewing the application.

The Advisory Planning Committee for Electoral Areas F and G supports the applicationĀ from Larry, Elmer and Jerry Meadows.

The RDEK board of directors Jan. 11 passed the first two readings of Bylaw No. 2897.
