Columbia Valley RCMP Report
From May 28 through to June 3 the Columbia Valley Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to approximately 56 calls for service. The following are a few examples of the files that were dealt with by our officers over the past week.
Camera found in park
On May 30, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report from a Parks Canada employee that someone had turned in an expensive camera, a Canon EOS 60 with Canon 100mm macro lens. The camera is at the Columbia Valley detachment for safekeeping, so please call if you know the owner or have any information.
Drinking in public calls
Over the last week Columbia Valley RCMP received three calls for drinking in public. We would like to remind everyone that drinking in public is not permitted and you can be given a violation ticket for this offence and another for open alcohol.
Impaired charge in Fairmont
On June 2, Columbia Valley RCMP was on patrol on Highway 93/95 in Fairmont Hot Springs when a lone vehicle was noted parked in the northbound shoulder. Police spoke with the driver and determined alcohol to be a factor. The driver provided two breath samples resulting in a fail. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver was given paper work for an Immediate Roadside Prohibition violation.
Overdose at outdoor party
On June 3, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to assist with an Emergency Health Services call. A male overdosed at an outdoor party on the Kootenay River bank and was believed to be consuming alcohol and cocaine. The male was transported to the Invermere & District Hospital in stable condition. Police attended the party to ensure no other people required medical assistance.
Remember to cover your loads
A friendly reminder for road safety to all drivers with heavy loads.
If you are travelling on the highway, remember to cover your loads as itās a requirement under the Motor Vehicle Act. The RCMP has had several complaints regarding this issue. Itās the driverās obligation to check and ensure his load is safe for road before departing.
The members of the Columbia Valley detachment would like to wish everyone a great summer.
