This past week, September 23 through September 29, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 52 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.
GPS found near Limestone Lake
On Monday, September 23, a hiker turned over a GPS unit that was found near Limestone Lake. If anyone lost a GPS unit in this area, they can contact the Columbia Valley RCMP to identify the found GPS unit.
Columbia Valley SAR rescue hiker at Fairmont
On Monday, September 23, at about 7 p.m., an individual was hiking near the Fairmont Hot Springs Ski Resort when he recognized it was getting dark and he wasn’t confident he could find his way back to his vehicle before he lost light. Columbia Valley Search & Rescue was activated and quickly located the hiker and escorted him back to his vehicle. The hiker was not injured.
Gasoline theft investigation includes video footage
On Friday, September 27, the Spur Valley Golf Course reported ongoing theft of gasoline from their equipment. Police received video surveillance footage of the theft and continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP.
Lack of sober care ends with unwanted guest landing in cells
On Friday, September 27, at about 10:30 p.m., police were called to a residence in Radium Hot Springs to assist a resident in dealing with an intoxicated, unwanted guest. Officers attended and arrested the intoxicated female for mischief. Attempts to find a sober person to care for the female failed so she was held in cells until sober.
Main street traffic stop results in 90-day IRP
On Friday, September 27, shortly before midnight, an officer conducted a traffic stop with a Dodge Caravan on 7th Avenue in Invermere. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking prior to driving. The driver complied with a breath demand which resulted in him blowing over the legal limit. The driver was issued a 90-day Driving Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
Westside Road checkstop yields impaired driver
On Saturday, September 28, Columbia Valley RCMP conducted a road check on Westside Road near Radium Hot Springs with the BC Conservation Officers Service.
Officers checked a Ford F350 and observed an open bottle of liquor in the vehicle. The driver complied with a roadside breath test and blew two fails indicating he was over the legal limit to drive. The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30-days.
