Columbia Valley RCMP Report

This past week, November 11 through November 17, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 42 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.

No injuries in Highway 93/95 crash

On Tuesday, November 12, at about 8 p.m., the driver of a Mazda 6 was southbound on Highway 93/95 near Invermere when the they lost control of the vehicle and struck a telephone pole. There were no reported injuries.

Minor injuries in national park crash

On Thursday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 93 near Settlers Road in Kootenay National Park. Officers discovered a Dodge Ram pickup had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Observant officer results in driver’s arrest

On Thursday, November 14, at about 8:50 p.m., an officer was conducting patrols near Invermere when he noticed a Ford Tempo travelling on Highway 93/95 with an inactive license plate. The officer conducted a traffic stop and determined the driver was prohibited from driving. The driver was also breaching his conditions by being in a motor vehicle without the registered owner. The driver was arrested and released on a Promise to Appear in court at a later date. He was also served violation tickets for having no insurance, the wrong number plate and no driver’s license.

Intoxicated man held in cells to keep him safe

On Thursday, November 14, at about 11:45 p.m., police were advised that an intoxicated male had left the Invermere and District Hospital and staff feared for his safety due to his level of intoxication. Police located the male and arrested him for being intoxicated in a public place. The male was held in cells until he was sober in order to ensure his safety.

Homeowner confronts would-be B&E artist

On Saturday, November 16, at about 1:30 a.m., a resident on Victoria Avenue in Windermere reported someone had entered their house and fled the area after being confronted by the homeowner. The male was described as being Caucasian, approximately 25-years-old, six-feet -tall with a thin build.

B&E call produces different arrest

On Saturday, November 16, at about 1:30 a.m., police were responding to a report of a break and enter in Windermere when an officer noticed a male riding a bicycle on the shoulder of Highway 93/95 in Windermere without a helmet. The officer stopped and spoke to the individual and discovered he was breaching his conditions by being away from his residence during his court ordered curfew. The 26-year-old male was arrested for breaching his conditions and released by a Judicial Justice of the Peace to attend court at a later date. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether this male was involved in the break and enter at the residence on Victoria Avenue.

Windermere break and enter

On Saturday, November 16, police received a report of a break and enter at a residence on Poplar Street in Windermere. The entry point was determined to be an unlocked door. Liquor, medications and cigarettes were stolen from the residence. Police seized items from the scene for forensic examination. Police are reminding residents to ensure they lock their houses and vehicles.
