This past week, April 27 through May 3, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 61 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files to which our officers responded.

Man held in cells until sober

On Tuesday April 28, police were called to a report of an intoxicated male causing issues at a residence on Kootenay No. 3 Road in Windermere. Police attended and arrested a male for mischief. The man was held in cells until sober.

24-hour driving prohibition

On Wednesday April 29 at 7 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Brisco. An officer located the vehicle travelling on Highway 93/95 near Invermere and witnessed the vehicle cross the fog line several times. The officer conducted a traffic stop and administered roadside sobriety tests with the driver. The officer concluded the driver’s ability was impaired by a substance and issued the driver a 24-hour driving prohibition.

Unyielding drivers knock one another into ditch

On Friday May 1 at about 11:45 a.m., emergency responders attended a two-vehicle motor vehicle incident on Athalmer Road near the Highway 93/95 intersection in Invermere. Information from the drivers and witnesses revealed a Ford F150 and Subaru Forester were both traveling eastbound on Athalmer Road. As the vehicles approached the end of the two lane passing portion neither driver would yield to the other and the two vehicles struck each other resulting in both drivers losing control of their vehicles and going into the ditch. None of the occupants were seriously injured. Both drivers were issued violation tickets for driving without consideration.

Impaired driver removed from road for 90 days

On Saturday May 2 at about 1 a.m., officers were conducting patrols in Invermere when they observed the driver of a black pickup truck crossing over the centre line and failing to signal. The officers conducted a traffic stop and noted an odour of liquor coming from the driver. The driver complied with a roadside breath demand and blew a “fail.” As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Prohibited driver stopped in Radium

On Saturday May 2 at about 3 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop with a Ford Windstar on Highway 93/95 in Radium Hot Springs. The driver was unable to produce a driver’s license and was discovered to be prohibited from driving. The driver was issued an appearance notice to attend court at a later date and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Impaired moped driver gets 90-day prohibition

On Saturday May 2 at 9 p.m., an officer was conducting patrols in Canal Flats when he observed a white Vespa and a black motorcycle with no license plate travelling on Beatty Avenue. The officer conducted a traffic stop with both motorcycles. The operator of the Vespa submitted to a roadside breath demand and blew a “fail.” As a result, the operator was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the moped was impounded for 30 days. The operator of the black motorcycle was issued a violation ticket for having no driver’s license.

Impaired driver stopped in Canal Flats

On Saturday May 2 at about 10:30 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop with a black Ford F250 on Grainger Road in Canal Flats. While speaking to the driver, the officer formed suspicion the driver had alcohol in his system. The driver submitted to a roadside breath demand and blew two fails. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the truck was impounded for 30 days.
