Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

This past week, October 24 through October 31, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 77 calls for service. The following is a Summary of some of the file our officers responded to.

Break and enter in Industrial Park

On Wednesday October 26, Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of a break and enter to a local business in the Invermere Industrial Park. The suspects broke into the complex where they stole numerous items including a freight truck. The vehicle was located abandoned nearby. However, some of the items stolen are still outstanding. This file is still under investigation. However, police have identified suspects for other thefts that occurred in the last 48 hours.

Police believe spate of October 27 thefts connected

On Thursday October 27, Columbia Valley RCMP received a stolen vehicle report that occurred overnight. The vehicle stolen was a white Ford F250 and is still unaccounted for. Also reported on this day, in separate incidents, were catalytic convertors being cut out from the exhaust system on two vehicles, a stolen mountain bike and a stolen toolbox from the back of a truck bed. The RCMP believe all these incidents are connected and are currently still under investigation.

Lost firearms turned into detachment

On Friday, October 28, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report regarding missing/lost firearms. The owner contacted the RCMP to notify us that his two long barreled firearms fell out the truck bed of his truck while driving and was unable to locate them. A short time later a passerby located the firearms and attended the detachment to turn them in. A big thank-you to the passerby.

Please take your time and drive to the conditions

Columbia Valley RCMP are reminding everyone travelling through Kootenay National Park, and for that matter anywhere, to give yourself extra time and prepare for winter driving. Snow is starting to fall at the higher elevations and with the extra traffic being diverted onto Highway 93 and 95. Police are asking that you please take your time and drive to the conditions.
