Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

This past week, March 27 through April 2, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 53 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

15 reports of vehicle break-ins in 10 days; suspect arrested

Over the course of 10 days Columbia Valley RCMP received 15 reports of vehicles being rummaged through or broken into. Several items were stolen including credit cards that were fraudulently used within the Columbia Valley. Through investigation avenues, members were able to identify a suspect believed to be involved in most, if not all the crimes that were committed. They also located a stolen vehicle (reported out of Calgary) that was used by the suspect. The suspect was located, arrested and is currently in custody. Police are recommending over 40 Criminal Code charges be laid.

Police strongly advise against road-walker’s logic

On March 27, Columbia Valley RCMP received a complaint of a person walking in the middle of the road which seemed suspicious. Members made patrols and located the individual who stated they walk in the middle of the road as it’s the flattest part of the road and will move if a vehicle comes by. Police were unsure of this logic and strongly advised against it.

Rollover on Westroc Mine Road

In the early morning hours on April 2, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a vehicle rollover on the Westroc Mine Road. Members attended the scene where some of the occupants were being treated for minor injuries by EHS. The driver of the vehicle was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention and operating a vehicle with too many occupants inside.
