By Cpl. Jeff Witzke

This past week, June 5 to June 11, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 76 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to:

Bear spray lesson accident sends one to hospital

On June 4, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a report of someone being sprayed with bear spray. Upon arrival it was determined this was not an act of violence but was accidental. The individuals claimed they were learning how to use the bear spray when one of them accidentally set it off. One of the individuals was taken to the hospital.

Breach of probation order results in 25 days in jail

On June 5, Columbia Valley RCMP received a complaint of an individual breaching his Probation Order. The individual was bound by a set of conditions, one of them being not to have any contact with or be in the same area of a certain individual. Members attended the scene where they arrested the suspect who was held and ultimately taken before the courts where they pled guilty and received 25 days in jail.

Driver/passenger switch attempt leads to driving prohibition

On June 9, RCMP officers were on patrol in the Kootenay National Park when they noticed a suspicious license plate and conducted a traffic stop. As the vehicle came to a stop the officer observed the driver and passenger attempting to switch spots. The driver was prohibited from driving and the passenger was suspended. As a result, the driver was issued a court appearance and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
