Elk versus car collision at Windermere
In the early morning hours of October 2, members responded to an elk versus car collision along Highway 93/95 just past the Windermere Loop Road intersection. The driver was not hurt in the collision and the elk was not located; however, the damage to the small sedan was extensive.
Serious injuries in double ATV collision near Canal Flats
On October 7, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to an ATV collision with serious injuries near Canal Flats. Upon arrival, it was determined two ATVs travelling together had collided and caused life altering injuries to one male and possible spinal injuries to the other. One male was flown to Foothills Hospital via STARS air ambulance while the other was transported to Cranbrook’s East Kootenay Regional Hospital via ground ambulance. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and the file is still under investigation.
Traffic complaints account for 31% of calls to police
Traffic complaints continue to make up a large percentage of files with 31% of calls responded to this week related to traffic and collisions.
With the cooler weather on its way (even though this past weekend was warm and sunny) the winter tire requirements have come into effect at the beginning of this month. On the designated highways, winter tires are required to travel the road between October 1 and April 30. The tires on your vehicle must display a snowflake symbol or “M+S” on the sidewall if you are travelling on these highways. The designated highways include Hwy. 93, Hwy. 95 (Hwy. 93/95), Hwy. 3, and Hwy. 1.
