Columbia Valley RCMP Report

By Sgt. Ed deJong

This past week, October 9, to October 16, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 88 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.

Observant officer finds vehicle stolen from Calgary

On October 9, a member of the Columbia Valley RCMP was conducting patrols for an unrelated file when they observed a white pickup with Alberta plates parked in a driveway. The truck was confirmed stolen out of Calgary and a male was arrested on outstanding arrest warrants. Male was held for court for the warrants and charges will be forwarded to Crown in relation to the stolen vehicle.

Mailboxes being broken into

Columbia Valley RCMP has received several reports of community mailboxes being broken into over the past week. It is likely the suspects are looking for government cheques. Investigation has revealed a white four door hatchback may be related to the thefts. If anyone has information regarding these thefts, please contact the Columbia Valley RCMP at 250-342-9292.

Gift card fraud/scams making rounds again

There has been an increase in fraud/scammer complaints where victims are being convinced to purchase gift cards for various reasons. If anyone calls you and attempts to get you to purchase gift cards or any other item online and send them, hang up and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
