Columbia Valley RCMP Report
This past week, April 22 to April 29, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 75 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to.
Two injured in collision with cement truck
On the evening of April 23, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a report a collision on Highway 93/95 between Fairmont Hot Springs and Windermere. Upon attendance, it was learned a northbound SUV had crossed into an oncoming southbound cement truck, striking the truck in the front axle area. The driver of the SUV was flown by STARS Air Ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and the passenger was taken to the Invermere and District Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the cement truck was uninjured. The investigation is ongoing; however, neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the collision.
Local male killed in crash near Canal Flats
On April 27, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to another serious collision on Highway 93/95, this time approximately five kilometres north of Canal Flats. It was learned a northbound pickup crossed the centre lane into the path of a southbound semi-tractor trailer. Sadly, the local male driver of the pickup succumbed to his injuries on scene. Alcohol and speed were not considered factors in the collision; however, driver fatigue may have contributed.
