Columbia Valley RCMP Report
By Sgt. Jeff Witzke
This past week, February 3 through February 9, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 39 calls for service. The following is a summary of some of the files our officers responded to over the week.
On February 5, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a vehicle fire just north of Fairmont Hot Springs on Highway 93/95. Upon arrival, the fire department was already on scene and tending to the fire. All three occupants were able to get out of the vehicle prior to the fire starting. The fire department suspected the fire started from within cab of the vehicle. The owner and occupants confirmed the same stating they were driving when the vehicle lost power and the dashboard started to smoke.
Four mental health calls during the week
During this week Columbia Valley Detachment attended four separate calls regarding mental health. One of those calls resulted in an apprehension under the Mental Health Act. The person was taken to Invermere & District Hospital where they became aggressive with staff and locked themselves in a bathroom. Members were able to de-escalate the person, who became cooperative with hospital staff.
