Columbia Valley RCMP Report
By Sgt. Jeff Witzke
This past week, Dec. 1 through Dec. 7, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 54 calls for service. The following is a Summary of some of the file our officers responded to over the week.
Investigation ongoing after Radium business break and enter
On December 1, Columbia Valley RCMP was made aware of a break and enter to the Fast Gas in Radium Hot Springs. The culprits broke into the store sometime overnight and stole cash, cigarettes and some tools. The RCMP have recovered some of the stolen property. The investigation is still ongoing.
Youth’s foot run over at Dysfunction Junction
On December 5, Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of an incident that occurred at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 13th Street (Dysfunction Junction) where a youth had his foot run over while crossing the street. Thankfully they weren’t badly injured but did sustain a bruised foot. It appears the youth was waiting to cross at the crosswalk where the closest oncoming vehicle did stop. However, a vehicle coming from the opposite direction failed to see the youth crossing and ran over their foot.
Speeding ticket fraud attempts being made
The RCMP have been made aware of yet another fraud and want the public to be aware. The fraudsters are texting people stating that they have been caught speeding and to avoid a driver’s license penalty, to pay the fine through the attached link. The police DO NOT send text messages advising of any violations, do not click the link and do not send any banking information.
