CYCZ hosts fourth fundraising Fly-in
By Bram Rossman
The Columbia Valley Airport Society hosted the fourth annual Fly-in and open house on Saturday, September 6 at the Fairmont Hot Springs Airport (CYCZ).
The event was a fundraiser for the airport and its’ 6,000′ runway, which is the only one between Cranbrook and Golden that offers 24-hour-a-day services.
The facility is considered a vital link for community infrastructure due to the ability to reliably land large aircraft (up to a 747) and having an illuminated runway.
CYCZ is also the only local airport that BC Emergency Health Services medical planes use, which offers the ability to move patients to higher levels of care in larger centres that are long distances away.
As part of the open house a dizzying airshow was provided by aerial acrobat pilot Neil Harris (pictured).
The stunt pilot put on two displays of aeronautical astuteness for attendees of the airport event, which was held adjacent to the runway on the large tarmac apron.
The Fairmont Airport is fully run by volunteers. Check out their website; and Facebook page.
