Early reporting leads to quick action on Windermere RV fire

Members of the Windermere Fire Department responded to a recreational vehicle fire this afternoon (Sept. 26).

“The homeowner saw smoke, called 9-1-1 and did his best to keep things cool until our crews arrived,” explained Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Drew Sinclair.

“Our crew was able to keep the fire confined to the RV with no damage to the adjacent garage. This is a testament to the incredible difference early detection and early reporting can make in the outcome of a call.”

In total, 10 members of the Windermere Department responded to the call just before 2 p.m. with three pieces of apparatus. There were no injuries.

While the fire was quickly extinguished, the RV is a total loss.

“I want to commend the homeowner and our team on a job well done,” added Sinclair. “This could easily have led to a much bigger, more involved scene and, while the loss of the RV is unfortunate, I’m grateful the fire did not spread further.”

While the fire itself was largely extinguished within 30 minutes, crews remained on site mopping up and ensuring there were no hot spots for much of the afternoon.
