Evacuation Alert remains in effect in Fairmont

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) this morning reports that the Evacuation Alert remains in effect for about 200 properties in Fairmont Hot Springs.

“Accumulated debris has reduced the capacity of the creeks to withstand a future event. Planning for debris removal is underway,” reported RDEK information Officer Loree Duczek.

“There was no measurable precipitation overnight at our Fairmont weather station. The creeks are running clear this morning,” she added.

“There are no significant changes to report at this time. There is a chance of thunderstorm activity throughout the day today and we will be continuing to keep an eye on the weather,” Duczek said.

Another update is anticipated later today (May 26).
