Fairmont fourth in BC Pro-Assistant tourney
In a championship round that went down to the wire on Tuesday, it was Matt Palsenbarg and John Shin of Northview Golf Academy that eventually captured the G&G Golf Company and Callaway PGA of BC Pro-Assistant title on the second playoff hole, ending the tie at 128 (-16) against Morningstar Golf Club’s Kevin Oates and Darren Griff.

Just missing the top three were Fairmont Hot Springs Resort/Mountainside Golf Course’s Jeremy Johnson and Alec Hubert (pictured above), who finished tied for fourth after shooting a 67 and 63.
“We hit the ball well and didn’t make many mistakes,” said head pro Palsenbarg. “If we did, we recovered well. The big thing about coming to this place is that we both really like the golf course… So it made it quite enjoyable.”
The pair has had previous successes together, winning the B.C. Match play in 2004 and 2006, as well as various other team events throughout B.C.
“I have to give credit to Matthew this week,” said assistant professional Shin. “He drove the ball super well, and we were in a position where we could attack, especially today. The greens were tricky so we missed a lot of putts, but his driving was phenomenal so I think that helped a lot.”
The pair sat two back of the lead at 66 at the end of Monday’s first round, as The Okanagan Golf Club’s Rick Crowson and Clay Stothers made a run at defending the 2015 Pro-Assistant title with an opening 64 in the best ball format. The defending champions finished tied for seventh place.
Johnson and Hubert took home $916.67, along with Fairview Mountain GC #2 and Tobiano & Eaglepoint.
