FireSmart Community Chipping Event coming for Baltac
Residents in Baltac are encouraged to take advantage of the East Kootenay FireSmart Program Community Chipping Event coming up at the end of the month.
“Now is a great time to look at your yard and think about which things are going to become hazardous during wildfire season,” said Local FireSmart Representative Thomas Dobbin. “Disposing of these materials will make your home more resilient to wildfire and help work toward protecting your community as a whole.”
Materials that will be accepted for chipping include tree and shrub materials. Other tips include creating multiple smaller piles as opposed to one large pile and placing branches with the thickest end facing the road. Limbs must be no wider than eight inches and residents must pile the debris at the end of their driveway as the chipping company will not enter private property.
This is event is open to residents living on Baltac Road, Hilltop Road, Nappe Road, and Peddley Road.
Debris piles may be left out from May 29 – June 12 and will be picked up for chipping on June 13.
