Golden Golf Club pros play 414 holes for ALS

Golden Golf Club proudly made its return to the PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS recently to commemorate the program’s 20th anniversary of supporting the ALS Society of BC (ALS BC).

Led by Director of Operations Graeme Kreiner and joined by Class“A” Professional Danny Fuez, the duo re-introduced the program to Golden Golf Club for the first time since 2010. Their goal? To play 200 holes (each) in a single day and raise awareness and vital funds for the society’s Patient Services Program.

Set with a fundraising goal of $1,000, their day commenced at 5:01 a.m. when they took to the first tee, thirty-minutes prior to sunrise. The anticipated start time was scheduled earlier; however, Fuez’s commute was disrupted by a crossing train which delayed his arrival to the club by approximately 20 minutes.

Throughout the day, dozens of supporters showed up to encourage them through their journey. Their last putt of the evening fell at the bottom of the hole at 9:28 p.m., concluding their 16-hour and 27 -minute day on the golf course.

The result of their efforts? 207 holes completed by each of Kreiner and Fuez, while their community supported them by raising over $4,000 for ALS BC. Donations continue to roll-in both physically at the club and through their donation page online.

“It is incredibly rewarding to know that something as simple as playing golf can help raise awareness and support for such an important cause,” said Kreiner. “Our community’s support throughout the day made every swing worth it. Donations are still coming in,” he added.

Since its inception, the PGA of BCGolfathon for ALS has raised over $3 million, directly benefiting registered patient programs and services that provide essential support, including a psychological treatment program, Camp Alohi Lani summer camp for children affected by ALS, and vital equipment to enhance patients’ quality of life through the Robert R. Heinrich Equipment Loan Program.

“Eleven and a half rounds of golf in a single day. We are incredibly grateful for the support of Graeme, Danny, and Golden Golf Club,” said Donald Miyazaki, Executive Director of ALS BC. “When I had spoken to them about this opportunity to assist, they welcomed the program with open arms. Thanks to their efforts, people in their surrounding area will greatly benefit from their efforts to help improve their quality of life. They truly are community heroes, in so many ways”.

This year’s Golfathon is proudly presented by the Pacific Blue Cross Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of British Columbians. The foundation supports communities across the province, ensuring that vital programs, such as the PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS, continue to make a meaningful impact.

The ALS Society of BC extends its heartfelt gratitude to the PGA of BC, whose unwavering commitment has made the Golfathon for ALS a cornerstone fundraising event for two decades. With approximately 700 dedicated golf professionals at almost 200 golf facilities across British Columbia, the PGA of BC plays a vital role in advancing the game of golf while fostering strong leadership in the community through charity events and volunteering. Their mission to promote, develop, and grow the sport aligns perfectly with the Golfathon’s goal of making a lasting impact on ALS patients and their families.

A special thank you to Golden Golf Club and deepest gratitude to the incredible efforts of golf professionals Graeme and Danny, as well as the staff, volunteers, sponsors, and donors who made this event possible. Your collective generosity continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
