Highway 93 closed after rock fall at Radium

Highway 93 leading into Kootenay National Park at Radium Hot Springs is currently closed due to rock fall on the road and may be closed for some time yet.

DriveBC reports the highway is closed in both directions at the west boundary of the national park, with the rockfall located in the famous canyon entrance (pictured) to Radium Hot Springs.

Parks Canada reported at 2 p.m. the Radium Hot Springs pools are closed until the highway reopens.

“Following an engineer assessment, slope stabilization and debris removal work is underway to ensure public safety and support a safe reopening of the highway,” Parks Canada said.
Highway 93 and the Radium Hot Springs pools are expected to remain closed until Thursday afternoon (Feb. 19).

Consult DriveBC for updates on the highway.
