Horsethief Creek FSR closed due to mudslide

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) reported earlier today that a mudslide has closed the Horsethief Creek Forest Service Road (FSR) at approximately the 40 km marker.

The road is a main access to Lake of the Hanging Glacier and will be closed until further notice.

Crews are working currently to get closure signage organized at the intersection of Horsethief Creek FSR and Westside Road, and the public should stay off this upper section of the road until it has been re-opened.

While there were people on the upper side of the mudslide, no one was injured and although there is at least one vehicle that will need to be recovered once the road re-opens, everyone is safely out of the area, the RDEK noted.

Future updates on the status of the opening of the road will likely be posted on the Rocky Mountain FSR Road Closure page.
