IHCA supports Invermere Hospital and Columbia House

The Invermere Health Care Auxiliary Society donated over $85,000 to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health this month in support of the Invermere and District Hospital and Columbia House.

The funds were raised through sales at the Auxiliary’s Main Street thrift shop. The donation will support a variety of new equipment and patient comfort priorities requested by staff of both health care facilities.

One of the highlights of the new equipment is a Lucas 3 chest compression system. This piece of equipment mechanically maintains chest compressions during patient transport, making it a major improvement for rural patients in need of transport to advanced life saving care.

Other equipment includes new blood pressure and cardiac monitors, a blanket warmer, new mattress, and replacement wheelchair cushions. These improvements will improve patient care and comfort at the Invermere and District Hospital.

Columbia House long-term care home will be receiving four new recliners with their portion of the donation. These new chairs will ensure residents have a comfortable place to sit in the common area that gives a much-needed break from always sitting in wheelchairs or Brodas.

With the generosity of this recent donation, the Invermere Health Care Auxiliary Society has now donated over $1.8 million to health care in Invermere and across the East Kootenay through EKFH.

An incredible amount of hard work, effort, and care from volunteers, donations, and shoppers over the years has made it all possible.

“The heart and dedication that the IHCAS volunteers pour into the Thrift Shop and their organization is nothing short of incredible,” said Brenna Hong, Executive Director of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.

“Each and every one of them makes a difference—not just to EKFH, but to the lives touched by their generosity and service. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.”
