BCWF offering free fish habitat stewardship workshop

The B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) Fish Habitat Stewardship Workshop provides all the required skills to restore your local freshwater ecosystems.

A workshop being offered August 26 and 27 in Invermere, free of charge, will provide a unique opportunity for participants to gain hands-on skills and experience, exchange knowledge, and foster connections with like-minded individuals.

Participants will gain valuable skills and knowledge, enabling them to assess, restore and monitor fish habitat in their local streams. By sharing our collective expertise, we can make a significant impact on the health and sustainability of British Columbia’s freshwater ecosystems.

The workshops will be held around Invermere’s Abel Creek August 26 and 27 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

The workshop is designed to provide specific education and instruction on fish habitat conservation.

Sessions typically cover:

Freshwater fish life histories (including Pacific salmon and trout);

Fish habitat and its importance;

Fish identification;

Water quality monitoring;

Freshwater invertebrate sampling and identification;

Stream morphology and hydrology;

Riparian vegetation;

Invasive species;

Watershed connectivity & importance .

To register for the workshop, interested participants can visit this website or email Haiden at [email protected] to secure their spot. Availability is limited, so we encourage early registration to guarantee participation.

Join us in our mission to protect and restore fish habitat in British Columbia. Together, we can make a difference.
