Enough of this Clovechok upchuck

Letter to the Editor

Just a quick note to see if you’ve been paying attention.

No doubt you’ve scanned the headlines about the Dialysis Unit closing, and now not closing, at the Invermere and District Hospital. You know what they’re talking about, right? It’s that place where people with kidney problems go to get their blood filtered through a machine.

One of my favourite headlines was a self-serving political gooder, “Liberals working hard for health units.”

When the story first broke a couple weeks back, we saw the typical deflect and distract maneuvers from our local Liberal MLA wannabe Doug Clovechok. He pointed out decisions, like the Dialysis Unit closure, weren’t made by his pals holding government. Instead, he said, they’re made “with the greatest of consideration” by people the government employs to make decisions for them —the Interior Health Authority (IHA). He also underlined the need for continued cuts in health care and the Liberal’s penchant for “efficiencies.”

Predictably, his comments created a fuss and the political PSI pursued.

Last week the direction of this story changed significantly: The Dialysis Unit is getting a (brief) reprieve from its impending doom. The problem is Clovechok’s story is changing too.

Clovechok’s comments continued last week. Suddenly the closure “didn’t sit well” with him, he said. Apparently the gastro-intestinal irritation spurred in him a change of heart. Or is that heartburn?

A wee bit of Doug Dialysis shows how he originally deflected the blame onto the IHA and tried to distract you from the issue by quoting some Liberal health care spending figures. Now he feels the closure wasn’t such a good idea. Funny how that works, eh?

I don’t know about you, but I think we’ve heard enough of this Clovechok upchuck.
