Grannies seeking donations for Craft Cupboard sale
A local charity is planning an exciting new event that will attract crafters of all stripes and colors including seamstresses, knitters and quilters.
Granny’s Craft Cupboard is a giant one-day sale of new and gently-used donations of fabric, yarn, notions and every type of craft supply.
The Valley Go-Go Sisters, affectionately known as “the Grannies,” have booked the Invermere Community Hall for Saturday, May 18 and they are now seeking donations.
“Everyone who sews or does crafts ends up with leftover supplies,” said member Val James. “This is a great way to recycle your old items, and know that the money is being used for a good purpose.”
The Grannies want all craft supplies in useable condition, including buttons and ribbon, knitting needles, paper and paint, Christmas craft items, how-to books, magazines and patterns. The sale will offer a Quilter’s Corner, a Christmas Cache and much more.
To minimize their workload, please donate only items that are clean and ready to sell. If donating yard goods, it would be helpful to measure the width and length of each piece, and pin a note to the fabric. The Grannies will accept all sizes of quilting cotton, but for other types of fabric, please donate a minimum size of one metre.
The Invermere Public Library has graciously agreed to serve as the drop-off point during their opening hours as shown on the website at www.invermere.bclibrary.ca. If you need items to be picked up, call Val James at 250-341-3781 or email [email protected].
The Valley Go-Go Sisters are an active chapter of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, a Canadian charity formed in 2003 to assist grandmothers in Africa whose families have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
If you have an abandoned craft project in your closet, consider donating it to this worthy cause. And if you’re ready to launch a new one, drop by the Invermere Community Hall at 709-10th Street on Saturday, May 18 – that’s the May long weekend – from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Teachers are especially welcome.
