Health Care Assistant Info Session at COTR

College of the Rockies’ Invermere campus is hosting a free information session on Wednesday, May 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. for those interested in learning more about the campus’ September Health Care Assistant program intake.

Representatives from the campus and the program will be on hand to answer questions about the curriculum and program design, an Education Advisor will provide information on entrance requirements and the college’s Financial Aid Officer will be available to review financing options.

“The need for health care professionals in our region continues to rise as the demographic shift continues.  College of the Rockies training initiatives ensure we are delivering service based programming to support communities in the region aimed at direct employment,” said Acting Invermere campus manager, Karen Cathcart, taking over from Doug Clovechok who was elected Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA May 9.

Health Care Assistant program coordinator, Sandi Hill added, “Our 27-week program provides an opportunity for individuals to prepare to start their career in the healthcare field in a short period of time.  In fact, many people start their health career in this field and later return for training at the college as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.”

Health care assistants provide personal care to individuals in residential care as well as in community settings. The second semester of the college’s program includes supervised practicum placements to ensure students receive hands-on experience in the field.

For more information about the Information Session, contact Carolyn Kurtz at 250-342-3210 extension 7102 or email [email protected].
