IFF announces short film winners

The Invermere Film Festival (IFF) has announced the winners of its second BC Short Film Competition.

The fifth annual IFF was held at Columbia Valley Centre Feb. 2 to 4.

Co-winners are The Mess We’re In by director Jamie Lam from Richmond and Lay Me By the Shore by director David Findlay from Vancouver.

The Mess We’re In is about someone still living in the hoarder’s house she grew up in, with young adult Dara contemplating moving forward in life.

And Lay Me By the Shore follows the last exams at school; everyone is in a celebratory mood. Noah is one of them – but he’s thrown out of this happy mood, as he tries to navigate his grief over the death of his best friend in an accident.

Honourable mention went to Torso (pictured above) by director Justin Woodman from Invermere.

Torso is a short horror film about a hospital visit that went worse than anyone could imagine.

IFF would like to thank Creative BC, the sponsor of the BC Short Film Competition. Creative BC is an independent society created and supported by the provincial government to sustain and help grow British Columbia’s creative industries.

“With their support, we were able to host the event and extend prize money to these upcoming BC filmmakers.”
