IFR responds to 17 calls after heavy storm
Invermere Fire Rescue (IFR) reported August 24 its crews responded to a total of 17 separate incidents (both locally and through mutual aid with neighbouring communities) following the August 23 storm that battered the valley.
All incidents involved downed power lines, fallen trees, wildland fire, and/or structural damage. Crews secured areas, mitigated dangers where possible, and performed patrols, IFR said on social media.
“In total, 14 personnel and seven apparatus/vehicles deployed – almost our entire fleet!”
“Invermere Fire would like to thank BC Hydro, RCMP, neighbouring fire departments, BCAS and our members for all their hard work. And we would also like to thank our great community for working together to help each other out.
“We will continue to share important information as it becomes available, but we also encourage you to follow the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) page as well for important updates.”
