Invermere high school teacher arrested
An Invermere high school teacher has been arrested after an investigation into inappropriate communication with a student.
In January of 2024, Columbia Valley RCMP initiated an investigation involving allegations that a teacher at David Thompson Secondary School in Invermere had engaged in inappropriate communication with a student.
Based on the information reviewed, the matter was forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service.
On February 13, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge against Jason Walker for three offences;
Section 153(1)(b) – Sexual Exploitation;
Section 171.1(1)(a) – Making sexually explicit material available to a child; and
Section 172.1(1)(a) – Luring a child.
“The offences took place over the Internet, specifically social media. As such, investigators believe it may be possible other individuals are aware of these offences,” said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.
“Police are encouraging anyone who may have further information to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP.”
Walker was arrested and placed on a number of conditions and is to appear in Invermere Provincial Court on March 4.
