Invermere Library hosting free tax support clinics
The Invermere Public Library is pleased to announce important details for its 2025 Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) clinic.
The CVITP helps people with modest incomes and simple tax situations file their tax returns at no charge.
Free tax support for eligible community members will be available by appointment only, beginning Wednesday, February 25, and running through Thursday, April 30.
Appointment times:
- Wednesdays between 3:30 and – 7:30 p.m.
- Thursdays between 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
This year’s clinic will operate by scheduled appointments to help streamline the process for 2025 filing. Fifteen minutes for individuals and 30 minutes for families. Clients will not be able to drop-off their paperwork as in previous years.
Who is eligible for CVITP support?
In general, to qualify for assistance under the CVITP, participants should have a simple tax situation where income comes from sources such as:
- Employment income;
- Pension income;
- Benefits (e.g., Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, Employment Insurance);
- Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs);
- Scholarships, bursaries or tuition credits’
- Interest income below $1,200.
Suggested income thresholds (family size and total family income):
- 1 person………. $40,000;
- 2 people……… $55,000;
- 3 people……… $60,000;
- 4 people……… $65,000
- 5 people……… $70,000
- More than 5 people $70,000, plus $5,000 for each additional person.
The program does not support preparation of returns involving business or self-employment income and expenses, rental or foreign income, capital gains/losses, or other more complex tax situations.
To help volunteers complete your tax return accurately and efficiently, please bring the following (or have them ready to print at the library):
• Identification & Income Documents
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s Licence, Care Card, passport, etc.);
- Social Insurance Number (SIN) (if not on your documents);
- All T-slips or forms, including (but not limited to): T4 (employment income); T4A (pensions/other income); T2202 (tuition); T4E (EI/benefits); T5 (investment income; note: maximum interest reported is $1,000).
Married and common-law couples must file together (at least one needs to be at the appointment with their and their spouse’s required paperwork).
Please bring the tallied amount of medical expenses for 2025 (We need the total, and won’t tally up receipts).
If applicable, details for dependants: name, birthdate, and SIN.
To claim BC Renter’s Tax Credit (up to $400 available), you must have been living in B.C. as of December 31, 2025, and rented in B.C. for at least six months of the year (multiple addresses okay).
If eligible, please bring the following information:
- Address(es);
- Total number of months rented;
- Total rent paid in 2025;
- Landlord/company name(s.)
