Local signs WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

The Victoria Royals Nov. 22 announced the signing of goaltender Ryan Tamelin to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Invermere resident Tamelin brings plenty of size to the crease as he stands at 6’8” and 201 lbs.

The 17-year-old goalie is currently playing for the U18 Okanagan Prep Team (CSSHL). In six games this season, Tamelin has posted a 6-0-0 record along with a sparkling 1.00 GAA and .961 save percentage. He has also recorded two shutouts.

His strong play last month earned him league wide recognition as he was named the CSSHL October Player of Month.

Tamelin spent a majority of the 2022-23 campaign with the U17 Okanagan Prep Team (CSSHL) where he played 19 games.

During those games, Tamelin finished 12-4-2 with a 2.35 GAA and .928 save percentage while adding two shutouts. He also suited up in one game with the Columbia Valley Rockies of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

The 2006-born Tamelin was originally selected 183rd overall in the ninth round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft by the Spokane Chiefs.
