Regional funds approved for Columbia Valley Arts

Columbia Valley Arts will have some help covering operating costs in 2022 and 2023 after Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors today approved a $10,000 grant for operating costs in 2022 and 2023 through the Columbia Valley Economic Development Service.

The board also agreed to a request for a grant of $10,000 in 2023 to be included in the RDEK’s draft 2023 – 2027 Financial Plan.

RDEK chief financial planner Holly Ronnquist noted in a request for decision report to the board the agreement for CV Arts to receive a grant of $10,000 in each year 2016 – 2021 for operating costs from the CV Economic Development Service has expired.

“CV Arts initially requested a new multi-year grant for five years. Finance has suggested that the request be made for two years to match a new multi-year grant policy proposal expected to be brought forward by early summer 2023, which would have multi-year funding approvals renewed by the board one year into each term,” Ronnquist explained.

“Providing a grant to CV Arts could provide economic benefit to the Columbia Valley as arts and culture contributes to the Columbia Valley being a desirable place to live, work and visit.”

The board unanimously agreed to the funding.
