Steamboat Mountain Music Society recently presented Carol Wilkie Memorial Steamboat Mountain Music Bursaries to five aspiring local musicians.

Thanks to Gerry Wilkie, who once again served on our bursary selection committee along with most of our Steamboat directors, we are pleased to have awarded the bursaries.

Gus Boyer is a piano student who studied with Tanya DuBois and Arne Sahlen, and then went into a Bachelor of Music program at University of Lethbridge. We awarded Gus a bursary in 2023 when he entered his second year of performing arts studies at university — and we issued him a second award in 2024 when he applied to complete the third year of his four-year program. This year we continue to support Gus as he completes his Bachelor of Music degree.

Avery & Ember Chapman are two young piano students from Invermere beginning their music studies with Tanya DuBois.

Cassius Cowles is an aspiring guitarist from Windermere who is taking lessons with Oso Simple.

Emma Flemington is a Fairmont Hot Springs musician who is pursuing music production training courses.

We wish Avery, Cassius, Ember, Emma, and Gus every success in their growth as musicians. We know we are making a good investment in the future of the arts.
