Porch Parties celebrate Edgewater’s neighbourly spirit

Friday Porch Parties give Edgewater’s Steamboat Mountain Music Fest a distinct local flavour.

On Friday, July 4 festivities begin with five sequential Porch Parties at various locations around town. Each party will feature a different local performer.

The first of the parties will be at the Edgewater Par 3 Golf Course at 4 p.m. Cranbrook artist Maddisun will open up the series.

Born and raised in the wilderness of Cranbrook, Maddisun (aka singer-songwriter Maddison Keiver) is sunshine-soaked, mountain-made rock ‘n roll with soulful vocals and a magnetic spirit. Maddisun channels raw emotion, resilience, and roots, taking you on a journey through wild beauty and nomadic dreams.

At the Hilltop, be sure to try a slice of host Jeannette Lautrup’s fabulous rhurbarb-custard pie.

From there, participants will be directed to the other locations around Edgewater. The second porch will present Radium’s Brad and Lori Lawrence.

Brad Lawrence (aka Groovin Toonz) is known for his extensive playlist of covers (Folk, Pop, Rock & Country).  Collaborating and debuting with him, his wife Lori will be bringing her sweet sound and magic on keyboard and harmonies.

Calgary singer-songwriter Curtis Butala will be featured on the third porch.

On the fourth porch, Invermere’s family band The O’Sullivans (pictured above), will be playing their infectious Irish pub and Irish traditional music. Their high energy performances feature Pat O’Sullivan on mandolin, guitar, and bass, Leisa O’Sullivan on whistles, fiddle, and bass, Tom O’Sullivan on guitar, bass, and harmonica, Matt Shelson on percussion, and Spring Burke on fiddle.

A new Columbia Valley group, Pulp Friction will deliver their unique tunes. Then that final gathering will wrap with an acoustic jam circle. Everyone is invited to bring their instruments and join in the joy of the jam.

Note from the Festival Organizers to Party Participants

Welcome! Bring your lawn chair, bring your instrument, dress for the elements, come to any or all of the parties. We set these up so people of Edgewater could relax and enjoy the festivities in a more intimate setting, but everyone is welcome – no admission charge.

We don’t want hosts to be overwhelmed, so please respect their hospitality. This feature of the festival is evolving, in a neighbourly spirit. There may be other unadvertised private porch parties around town too on the Friday night, but these are the five we have set up. If a particular one is overfull, enjoy the park, a walking tour of Edgewater, or a quick bite at the Legion, instead – and move on to the next one.

Throughout the whole evening, the Edgewater Legion will be hosting their famous Friday Wing Night and cash bar. Stop there for a while to fuel up, or order take-out wings to bring along to the next party.
