AKBLG Radium conference cancelled

By Stephanie Stevens

Leading by example is often the most effective form of leadership.

With social distancing recommended to help limit the spread of COVID-19, the Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments (AKBLG) has made the decision to cancel its annual meeting, which was slated to be held in Radium Hot Springs later next month.

“Given our risk assessment around COVID 19 and to ensure the safety of our members, speakers, sponsors and of course the community of Radium Hot Springs, the AKBLG Executive today made the decision to cancel the 2020 Convention,” said Roly Russell, AKBLG President. “We look forward to welcoming you all to the 2021 AKBLG Convention in Radium Hot Springs.”

While the cancellation is disappointing, Village of Radium Hot Springs Mayor Clara Reinhardt said it was the responsible thing to do.

“After a very slow winter, our businesses were really looking forward to hosting the members of the AKBLG,” she said. “Although disappointed, we understand and support the rationale, and look forward to welcoming everyone next year.”
