Fire ban initiated for Redstreak Campground
In an effort to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires, a fire ban will be implemented for Redstreak Campground, adjacent to Radium Hot Springs in Kootenay National Park until further notice.
Lighting or maintaining fires is strictly prohibited effective Friday July 14, at 11 a.m.
This fire ban includes all open fires and prohibits the use of the following items:
- Campfires (no wood or briquette fires);
- Charcoal or briquette barbecues;
- Turkey fryers;
- Outdoor wood burning stoves including cooking shelters;
- Tiki torches.
Use of the following items are excluded from the fire ban provided they are under direct supervision and certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or Underwriters Laboratories (UL):
Portable propane fire pits (prohibited at overflow campgrounds);
Gas or propane stoves and barbecues designed for cooking or heating;
Propane or gas fuelled lanterns (enclosed flame);
Patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/radiant).
At this time no other fire bans are in effect for Kootenay, Yoho or Banff national parks.
The fire ban will be removed as soon as weather and forest conditions permit.
